One Employee, One Phone


Across the Federal government employees are issued both desk phones and cell phones. The issuance of cell phones increases employee accessibility but also results in duplicative costs for redundant services. This proposal is to remove this duplicative cost by fully requiring employees issued cell phones to use them in lieu of desk phones thereby reducing internal infrastructure support costs and eliminate wasteful spending. There is no practical reason for employees issued cell phones to also have desk phones. Cell phones today have as many, if not more, features as traditional phones and can be cost effectively managed through agency-wide service negotiations. The potential savings for implementing this idea could be 100s of millions- possibly even billions with no appreciable adverse impact.
