I suggest the MI&E rates (not lodging rates) be lowered to 60% of their current rate. It currently lowers to 60% on day 31 of most long-term details. This suggests that it does not need to be so high for days 1 - 30.
This would save millions of dollars in sending employees to trainings, work groups, or details. This would also diminish the current public image of government employees eating expensive meals on the tax-payer dollars. Furthermore, this would encourage employees to request details based on their true interest rather than getting some extra money from the government.
