There are numerous types of software that will set your computer for energy efficiency, quick ‘soft’ shutdown & fast start-up. We all know that shutting down our computer means that we will have a long wait in the morning to start it back up. So most people leave their computer on all night, wasting enormous amounts of energy. With a “soft” shutdown type of software, we can control scheduling for power on, stand by, hibernation, shut down and rebooting, sleep modes and power down modes, and others offer ways to choose your schedule. Some software can decide what actions to take based on an "efficiency slider" where you choose how much energy savings you want to achieve. You can also see your savings and CO2 emission reductions, and compete with other users. I suggest that the Federal Government chooses a type of software that will make our workstations as energy efficient as possible.
