Selling Surplus VA Capacity

I suggest that consideration be given to selling surplus service capacity in the VA health care system to private contractors. Because of declining numbers of veterans in older age brackets and shifting population, there are some VA facilities that have surplus capacity. This surplus capacity in clinics and in the expensive diagnostic equipment such as MRI's could be leased to medical practitioners on a triple net basis and thereby offer greater levels of medical services in the areas where such surplus facilities are located. The evaluation of this concept could start with a memorandum to all VA health facilities requesting them to identify surplus capacity and medical equipment and other assets that are underutilized.
