Save money and Carbon by reducing use of GSA

Scale back GSA and change procurement rules to save money and fuel/carbon. This would save money and lots of carbon due to the extra shipping. Currently many agencies must purchase items such as pens and copy paper through GSA, when those prices are far more than Walmart or Staples and the shipping adds much CO2. Make travel to areas outside the region be absolutely essential since this creates a huge carbon footprint (at huge cost). Find ways for each commuting employee to monitor and reduce his/her commute footprint. Create incentives for footprint reduction.

Trees planted to commemorate government agency special events/honors

I suggest a federal government program allotment that goes to buying inexpensive, drought-resistant trees, to be planted on government agency property, to recognize organizational achievements, awards, and other important events.
Russian and U.S. space programs often plant trees to commemorate special events, such as space launches. Trees have a lot of advantages, in addition to their ability to reduce carbon footprint... more »
