Reward Fiscal Responsibility Instead of Penalizing It

Change the budgeting system to reward those who reduce their annual budgeted expenditures; currently, those organizations that don't spend their entire budget allocation are penalized by having their future year allocations reduced. This fosters frivolous spending at the end of each fiscal year just to ensure all allocated dollars are spent.

Official Travel

After a recent stint at one of the FLETC, it became blatantly obvious exactly how much in government funds is wasted via the government's contracts with travel agencies such as Sato/GetThere. An attempt to book a flight from New York to Charleston, which included a layover in Georgia, netted the contracted travel agency $1299+ taxes/fees, while a direct flight could have been booked through the airline's website at $180+... more »

Incentive for travel thriftiness

Currently, I know of no requirement or incentive for employees on travel status to conserve government resources by taking the cheapest form of travel possible once they have arrived at their destination city -- i.e., taking metro to get from the airport to the hotel versus taking a taxi. Giving employees an incentive to conserve government resources -- frequently at somewhat of an inconvenience to them -- would allow... more »

Cutting Excessive Spending

I believe the government should be paying for managers meals, drinks, vehicles, insurance, gas, housing and medical bills on every occasion. I think the amount of money billed for meetings and events needs to be tracked more carefully and not abused. Nor should a politician live in a home that uses 7 times the normal americans yearly energy consumption, PER DAY. Lets help ground our leaders and get our economy back on... more »

National Champion for the American Taxpayer

Government is the only organization in the world that rewards its managers for spending their money.

As a federal employee, I am aware of no program or policy that provides any incentive to give money back to the national treasury. One of my organizations was once congratulated for spending 99.92% of its budget. To my knowledge, no one ever asked whether the money went to good use. Instead, they used that information... more »

CHANGE THE MENTALITY OF EMPLOYEES BY CHANGING THE WAY ORIENTATION AND TRAINING ARE CONDUCTED FOR NEW HIRES

I suggest we change the governmental mentality of employees from day 1 by restructuring new hire orientation and training. Here at the IRS, recruitment uses several catchy and effective slogans when hiring like, “It all adds up.” or “Count on me.” For new hires though, the slogans stop. It is time to adopt one – “Let’s be accountable.” Under my proposed philosophy we will stop promoting waste among employees and shift... more »

Government at all levels can Save Zillions of Dollars

Let us change how all levels all of Government, including Federal and State and local entities, approach spending at the end of each fiscal year. Organizations are afraid if they don't spend their budgets that money will be lost, job justification sacrificed, and their budgets reduced the following year. This fear strongly encourages a spending spree at the end of each fiscal year that results in zillions of tax dollars... more »
