Switch to the FLAT TAX System

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member
Eliminate income tax and go to the Flat Tax System which has been proposed for years. This way everyone will be assured to pay taxes. Also we will have more take home pay as well as not having to be burdened with tax laws and the like. it's a shame when you have to carry the burden as a tax payer, when your local drug dealers get to keep all their take home pay, as well as illegal immigrants. Think about it people, this... more »

Income Tax Booklets

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member

To cut down on waste of paper and the expense of printing and mailing, I suggest the Government only mail income tax booklets to those citizens who specifically request them either by phone or email. Let the majority of people pick one up at their local library or post office if they cannot complete their form online.

TAX-TV

TAX-TV is a cable channel devoted to tax and tax-related topics. The channel would be a mix of both IRS and commercial programming having tax as its unifying theme. For example, a QVC-like program could be used to auction property seized from convicted tax criminals. This likely would result in better prices for auctioned items. A "reality" show based on the daily life of tax collectors would both entertain and act as... more »

Improvement for Form 1040

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member
I suggest you...add a line to the 1040 which allows taxpayers to pay additional amounts towards unfiled return periods. A short declaration, if you will, that states: "I have been unable to file my tax return for the ____ tax year. I estimate that I will owe $____ for that period and (X) want $_____ of my refund applied to that period or (X) have enclosed a check for $_____ to be applied to that period". It is my belief... more »

Tax CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS

Community Member kudos icon +

TAX campaign contributions. Clearly the money is being used to vy for a job to ultimately receive monetary and power enrichment. The job they seek isnt a charity. If "WE" (the taxpayers) solicited contributions to get a private industry job, "WE" would be required to pay taxes.

Tax Return Automation

Community Member kudos icon +

I believe the manner in which we (the IRS) receive, track and process manual (paper) tax returns is antiquated. With these returns passing through so many hands, there is a huge margin for human error; however, if the tax returns were bar-coded upon receipt and these bar codes were scanned throughout each step of the process (especially now that returns are sent throughout the nation regardless of where they are filed),... more »

INCREASE TAX ON ALCOHOL

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member
Increase taxes on alcohol. Alcohol is the cause for so many of the countries problems from drunk driving to marital abuse. It has caused more deaths than smoking. The government should tax it the way it taxes cigarettes. I know this suggestion will be disagreed with a lot, but is there anything I wrote that is not correct? I know not everyone has a problem with it, but far too many people do so why not tax it more... more »

1099 and W-2 data can help close the tax gap

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member

Reporters should provide 1099, 1098 and W-2 data to the IRS at the same time such data is reported to taxpayers. Taxpayers should then have access to the information directly or through a representative (including tax preparation software). This would help taxpayers report all 1099 and W-2 income and deductions, thereby avoiding a letter audit and closing the tax gap.

Federal Sales Tax

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member

Implement a federal sales tax and do away with the income tax. I think this has been proposed before and the study showed that we would actually get more money annually. Think about it. No federal tax taken out of an employee's check means more spending power. When they buy, the federal sales tax applies. Additionally, accountants still keep a job. Someone has to track all those purchases.

Dissolve IRS and Bring On Flat Tax

Community Member kudos icon +

It is time for the US to evolve and get rid of the IRS. Euopean coutries have used flat taxes for decades and we still have a sytem that rewards having children, finding loopholes, and creating write-offs. The US should switch to a simple flat tax system so everyone regarless of single, married, have children, etc pay the exact same based on your annual income. The IRS has made taxes so complicated, it is extremely... more »
