Teaching a Second Language to Elementary Students

I suggest we start a program to start teaching our children “at an early age” a second language. There are more and more companies hiring employees putting emphasis on someone who is bilingual before looking at someone who is perfectly qualified in every area except being bilingual. I don’t look at this as “forcing” a second language on a child, but giving that child a chance to excel beyond expectations. Children... more »

DOED can save millions by working with IRS on new FAFSA system.

Presently, the Department of Education spends app. $60-80M a year on the Front End Business Integration (FEBI) contract, which provides O&M of processing systems resident on the Central Processing System, the most important of which is the Free Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). I recommend eliminating this part of the contract, and working with the IRS to utilize the contracts it has in place with companies... more »

A New Educational System for The United States

In the U.S., after a student receives their high school diploma, no one cares about them except their families. If they have not applied to a trade school or college, they sit around doing nothing with their lives. These individuals often have no skills and remain unemployed or dependent upon their parents for support. Frequently, these people get into trouble with the law, end up in prison, and have difficulty being... more »

Student Career Path Aptitude

I suggest that every person who wants to go into a given health care career (EMT, nursing home care, nursing home administration, nursing of any kind, emergency room care, doctor, alzheimer's/dementia care unit, etc) find out before they get too deep into college/training if they have the empathy and caring to handle the rigors of the job they are getting into. How to do this? “Volunteer” and get student credit for... more »

College Co-op Plan - A Loan Alternative

Rather than providing loans to college students, there could be a contract system. This system would help students pay for college in exchange for a manageable percentage of the student's future annual earnings for an agreed upon period of time. Students who chose fields with lower entry-level pay wouldn't be so overwhelmed with college loan payments. Inevitably, some students would not have to pay the full cost of... more »

STATE EMPLOYEES HELP THE COMMUNITY

I suggest you encourage State Employees to help with charities/community work monthly or have a quota done every 6 months (for example clean the community, teach writing/reading, help the poor, help builders...) Everyone should give a little bit back of their knowledge to the community but this should be compulsory to every department such as a 'duty'. This would help to save spending on training people...

What: After high school, graduates should serve their country for two years (AmeriCorps Vista, Army, Navy, etc…) Families will be able to choose the agency). After completion, they would either enter into a higher education institution, go into the workforce, or remain in the program. Majority of teens who enter into higher education after high school are not ready, disciplined and/or focus. The nation is spending billions... more »

Open-Access Web-Based Education Booster

A population that is well educated is a population that can make intelligent decisions. Currently there is a significant degree of separation in the levels of education in different parts of America. My idea: Make quality educational material available to everyone.

Build a searchable website that is publicly edited (a-la wikipedia) by certified teachers. Break the website down by grade on the front page, and subsequently... more »
