Tapping Obesity Energy Reserve (TOER) Initiative

Tapping Obesity Energy Reserve (TOER) is one initiative that contributes to solutions for two national issues--(1) the need for alternative energy solutions and (2) solutions to reduce obesity (like Let's Move). Photovoltaic Windows

I suggest you...install PV windows (lets light in, and generates electricity) instead of regular windows whenever an old window is replaced (renovation) or a new window is purchased (construction). This could be done in Federal buildings as well as mandated for buildings constructed or improved with Federal funds. The cost savings for heating/cooling a building fully outfitted with PV windows is 50%.

Decreasing Light Bulb Usage

I suggest that for every flourescent and other lighting fixtures, we take out at least half of the bulbs (i.e,, go from 4 to 2), particularly in common areas. This will save money on replacing the bulbs, save electricity, and most likely save on cooling since it will be less energy in the room. By just take out the two bulbs, it really does not make a difference in the lighting of the area.
