Military Housing Assistance Program (HAP) Expansion Needed

Housing Assistance Program expansion needed in critical states to avoid foreclosure of homes for military. Amend the law to expand the period of participation in HAP to include homes bought in all of 2006 by military. Current plan limits to homes bought in 30 June 2006 and this is causing many military to face foreclosure, bankruptsy, risk their security clearnance, or even discharge early from service.

What: Redesign the Section-8 program into a Transitional Housing Program (THP).
How: The idea is to transform the current program into a program that will help individuals and their families transition into independent status within 6 months. This program will restructure the Section-8 funding. Average families typically stay in the program for 2-3 years if not longer, and HUD currently pays market rate for this service.... more »
