I think that the most money could be saved by rethinking travel. As it is now, we use contact travel agencies. Most of these "travel agencies" are are online and automated. Yet, we are being charged a minimum of $13.50 just for the travel agency to issue each authorization and voucher that could be handled internally. We also pay the fee to book flights, as well as having to deal with greatly inflated flight prices. I... more »

The government travel system gives us negotiated airline contracts that more often than not provide higher fares than non-contract carriers, and both options are generally more expensive than the same ticket booked on an internet travel site (Expedia, Priceline, etc.). Realizing security and other issues involved, why can’t booking through such internet sites be negotiated as an option with the next travel contract?... more »

Eliminate the requirement to use federally contracted travel booking agencies. Flight costs can be significantly lowered by having individuals use discount sites i.e. Travelocity, kayak, etc. instead of the city pair contracts. Additionally, the $6-$27 per trip cost of using the automated booking engines would also be eliminated.

Allow governement travelers to use the best price available when securing flights, car rentals and lodging. GovTrip does not provide a service that is more benficial than what can be found on the open market yet we get charged a fee to use it.

I suggest we do away with what amount to government-supported monopolies and allow agencies and employees to seek out the best price for services. For instance, we could book our own travel, eliminate the middle man, and stretch our budgets further. I can understand the necessity of travel agents, but when you're forced to use them for even the simplest of things, all you're doing is adding unnecessary expense, sometimes... more »

I suggest that we end our contract with GovTrip, and eliminate the requirement for using a "government contract carrier" between city pairs. I travel frequently for work, and am increasingly concerned about the costs of travel due to our contract with GovTrip. This company charges $13.50 per transaction, even if the agency books and prepares all the travel in-house. Every call to the travel agent, or alteration to... more »
