Use premium American-made synthetic lubricants in all government vehicles.

I suggest that all government vehicles be required to use an engine oil with a spec equivalent to Mobile 1 Extended Performance, which is guaranteed for 15,000 miles between oil changes. The engine oil in most government vehicles is changed every 3,000 miles. I use the oil I am recommending here in my personal vehicle, and do 1 oil change for every 4 to 5 that the government does on their vehicles. By the way, because... more »

Waste of Agency Funds

Stop allowing government leadership and administrators to purchase new furniture, as they have been doing. There are warehouses full of perfectly good government furniture. Budgets are shrinking, yet Senior Executive Service personnel and even management personnel down to GHS-14's in USDA are allowed to purchase new office furniture without utilizing furniture at hand in government stockpiles. Their egos are spending... more »

Open source is not free, but it is close

I suggest the government move to open source software whenever an upgrade is scheduled. Employees already have to deal with new menus and features during upgrades, and most mature open source software has a similar look and feel as proprietary offerings. Therefore, the learning curve would not be too steep and there was going to be a learning process anyway when the upgrade happened.

Reduce Surveys and Their Cost

USDA and other Departments collect sales and other data from farmers and businesses via mailed surveys every year. If sales, production, prices, and other income related data are included as part of annual income tax filing, then these expensive surveys may no longer be necessary or as lengthy. This way, all farmers or businesses will submit data, not only a sample from major States as annual surveys usually do.

Unnecessary Uniform Allowances

I suggest that the Government agencies that require their employees to wear uniforms, rethink this. Not all employees are frontliners nor need to be identified as Goverment employees. Many folks use there uniform allowance to stock up on Stetsons or socks for retirement. When you are legitimately required to wear a uniform, your needs should be individually evaluated and everyone does not need the same allowanance.... more »

GOV TRIP - Utilize Commercial Online Travel Booking - NOT GOVTRIP - AND GET COMMERCIAL FARES !

By using an online commercial travel booking service such as Travelocity or Orbitz we could save millions - literally. By using GovTrip we are wasting millions of dollars by 1. untold employee hours (and likely the most money) wasted due to poor website application functionality, 2. not being able to book the least expensive options, 3. the cost of the application itself, 4. difficulty in processing travel vouchers after... more »

Get rid of GovTrip

Renegotiate or scrap the GovTrip contract with McDonnell Douglas. Even when a traveler makes their own hotel reservations, and airline travel is not necessary, the system charges $13.50 just to process a voucher. This is excessive and used to be free when the administrative staff in WDC processed the vouchers for payment.

Sustainable design

All natural resource agencies such as Forest Service, Park Service, Corps of Engineers expend and enormous amout of monies performing backlog maintenance replacing wood timbers that rot with wood timbers that will rot again. Although recycled plastic appears to be an alternative it to is pron to vandals, fire, spliting and almost 3 times the cost of treated wood. Recommend concrete due to its lower cost than wood and... more »

farmers and cotton alotments

I suggest you...sir there are small and large farmers who recieve cotton alotments on acres of there land. we should show proof that we bought or used fertilizer and or bought or used a seed to recieve the coton alotment. If a person is not working his land he should not get free money. This would save I believe millions of tax dollars
