Place more emphasis in training commands both "A" and "C" schools that concentrate on educating technicians. This ultimately decreases the reliance on civilian contractors' technical knowledge and travel abroad to fix ships away from home ports.
Replace older model battery operated battle lanterns with rechargeable battle lanterns (batteries). The batteries currently used fail often(usually 4 hours after loss of power) and are unique and expensive to replace. Also, replace the light bulb with an LED light.
Remove urinals that are installed onboard ships. This will save money on daily maintenance (approx 12 Man hours a day on my ship). The salt water mixed with urine creates calcium buildup. This buildup clogs pipes which require continuous maintenance. The CHT tanks are big enough to handle regular commode duties.
Install wireless hotspots throughout the ship. this will reduce the amount of cables installed onboard and can be updated quickly with little infrastructure.
Install Motion sensors for lights in spaces like shops, fan rooms and passage ways that are not manned 24 hours a day. This will save money on inport electricity costs.
I suggest you... Eliminate new backgroung checks when people move between branches. I work for the DoD. And I get background checked for all other agencies. It is a waste of time, energy, and money.
I suggest replacing on-station use only vehicles with smaller gasoline or electric vehicles (mini-work trucks, golf cart type vehicles etc). These vehicles are more energy efficient, cost less to purchase and maintain and will allow more personnel access vice having to drive personal vehicles around the command for govt business.
