Passwords

We need to streamline the various password requirements that continue to get more complicated, requiring more time spent on inputting them, creating them etc. Recently we are required to use a password to "wake-up" sleeping Blackberrys, creating a task that eats up one workday a year for me alone. If you look at the time we collectively spend with passwords government wide, we are wasting hundreds of FTE on non-mission... more »

Employees whose work does not actually require their physical presence be allowed to telecommute from home. Saves on pollution emissions. Doing everything electronic saves on paper waste, and cost of paper and printers. Working from home the employee pays for the electricity required to run computer instead of government. Employee being at home will also save the government costs of water treatment, and waste water treatment... more »

Cut down on travel costs to schools

I suggest that we cut down of government employee travel to save money.

With the internet, employees can take more classes on line rather than flying to a location, staying in a hotel and taking the same class. Millions could be saved every year.

Consolidate the uniform land management law enforcement components of the Interior Department and and the Forest Service into one uniformed agency (FWS Refuge and Agents/Forest Service Uniform and Agents/BLM Uniform and Agents/BOR Uniform/NPS Uniform and Agents). Consolidation would result in significant savings in training, recruitment, retention, and through economies in scale in management. Additional savings would... more »

Eliminate Sunday differential for employee pay throughout the Federal Government.

I worked approximately 17 seasons for the National Park Service and always received Sunday differential, even though it was clearly stated in my hiring information that I may be required to work on Sundays. A Sunday work schedule is part of the job and normal schedule for many. People should not necessarily be receiving an additional 25%... more »

I suggest you...Stop Stop Stop getting rid of perfectly good, usable working computers, monitors, desks, chairs, furniture, etc... This is madness. The newer stuff may look better sometimes but it's not even good quality. It is overpriced and what gets tossed away is often better quality(furniture) or in perfectly good working condition(computers). If you need a specific monitor or chair - Doctor's verification please.... more »

Default to Black & White

I suggest that all agencies ask their employees to set the printing default in preferences to Black & White and only use the Color option when needed. All too often I've seen people printing documents using the color option that could just as well have been printed in black and white and save the color cartridges for specific needs. Some employees I've talked to didn't know they could change their settings and were more... more »

Automate or Adjust the Watering Schedule of National Areas.

Water Conservation... Reschedule the watering at the parks, memorials, monuments, and on The Mall. The grass areas along the National Mall are typically watered beginning at 9:00AM rotating throughout the morning. This is one of the least efficient and least cost effective times to water. Not only does a bulk of the water evaporate before reaching the roots due to the sun and heat, but watering during the heat of the... more »
