Power Plant High Voltage Electrician

I suggest that we eliminate the majority of the top heavy management posistions that we presently have here. As of last count we have 450 managers overseeing 150 workers that get the job done day in day out 365 days a year. That alone would save the taxpayer myself included millions of wasted dollars a year.

Create Day Care Centers for DOC/NOAA employees where there are not any already.

Help employees save money and reduce the amount of sick leave/emergency leave used by employees with small children by creating "inside" day care centers for employee's children while employees are at work (only for employees use). This will not only enable the employee to work more efficiently but will also help to improve attitude and reduce stress and concern of the employee. The cost of these day care centers for... more »

Discuss only top 25% of grant applications in NIH peer review

Improve NIH grant application peer review process by using the process pilot tested with most of the ARRA reviews conducted in 2009: This involves having a mail or online review for all applications followed by a face to face review meetings with discussion for ONLY the portion of grant applications that truly are likely to be considered for peer review. So if the typical NIH Institute's payline is up to the 18th percentile,... more »

Fraud reduction

Currently the IRS provides a bounty/reward system for reporting tax fraud. Other agencies plagued by fraud, like entitlement programs (e.g. medicare fraud) or government contracts, should have a similar system. Millions of dollars are lost to fraud and having a cash incentive will encourage more reporting and discourage fraud. If such system is already in place it should be advertised.

RECYCLE PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION/PILL BOTTLES

I suggest that the Federal Government look at implementing a program for returning used prescription bottles that are dispensed at hundreds of Military Treatment Facilities (MTF's) and VA medical centers/clinics. I know that there has to be hundreds of thousands of plastic pill bottles dispensed each year throughout the MHS and VA Health Systems. These bottles are more than likely over time thrown out in the trash and... more »

External Hard Drives

We are currently being told that we have to purchase approved external hard drives because of their security. The security in these drives are no different then one you can go buy anywhere else. However, these drives are over 4 times the cost with half of the storage space. An "Approved" drive is $486 for 500mb. A drive from any office supply store is around $100 for 1000mb. These other drives can be secured in the same... more »

Using digital signatures to capture approvals rather than manually routing hard copies

The government should uniformly require the use of digitized signatures to expedite the approval process for many routine documents. Rather than manually routing a hard copy of a document to multiple people, offices, buildings, etc., a certified digital signature can be applied by multiple people simply by clicking a button. This saves both employee time and paper.

Overhaul Budget Review Process

We, and I mean ALL government offices have got to stop awarding spending to offices based on last years spending. It has to be on tangible results or you run into that money to burn situation just to make sure your budget does not get cut the next year. I have seen literally hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars go into frivolous projects for the sake of spending to spend. If you told a teenager he had a thousand... more »
