Count Savings in the Section 8 Homeownership Program

Count assets in the Section 8 Homeownership Program .
People on Section 8 have huge savings/inheritances/receive huge monetary gifts from family members to use as a downpayment when purchasing a home in the Section 8 Homeownership Program. If a client has that much money, it should go towards their monthly portion or disqualify them from Section 8- they don't need it anyway. Right now, only the interest earned on... more »

Eliminate unnecessary HECM Second Mortgages

Currently, in the FHA HECM (reverse mortgage) program, HUD requires the execution/recordation of a second note and mortgage in favor of HUD, to be used solely in the event that the FHA lender fails to pay the borrower amounts due under the mortgage. However, in approximately 70% of cases, the borrower draws all available funds at closing, which means that there are no additional funds due that the FHA lender could fail... more »

Modify TEAPOTS to allow for PDF uploads

I suggest that HUD's TEAPOTS system be modified to allow pdf files to be uploaded in the documents section. Currently FHEO Equal Opportunity Specialists are forced to submit written summaries of all documents aquired during a housing discrimination investigation. This can be effective for simple documents, but becomes very time consuming when one has to summarize large documents such as complaint responses and responses... more »

♥Weekly Current Event Hour♥

I suggest weekly "Current Event" Hour...For the employees that have special/current events and/or personal stories that he/she would like to discuss with fellow employees. Instead of repeating the "story" multiple times during the workday. Employees should be given an opportunity to gather as many people who have a common interest or want to "tune in", into a conference room, tell their story "ONCE", if need be, browse... more »

Housing during Deployments and leases CONUS v. OCONUS

There should be a complete overhaul of the housing department for the military. In my opinion four changes in the process of this one department alone runs could save potentially millions.

Change number one, do not allow the military to put a Soldier, Airman, Marine, or Seaman’s personal belongings into storage throughout a deployment. IF a Soldier wants to put his or her belonging into storage they should do so... more »

ELIMINATE HUD HOMES BY LEARNING FROM HABITAT OF HUMANITY

CHANGE, I want it! HUD should duplicate the originality of Habitat for Humanity to get the HUD Homes off the books faster AND house the homeless. Some homes could be converted from single family to multi-family homes if zoning laws did not restrict it. Once the designs are made, labor could be provided by the now-homeless but prospective homeowners.
As a nation, we are watching the number of homeless increase exponentially,... more »

Curtail the hiring of Consultants that work for HUD/FHA

An audit should be conducted to see the cost effectiveness of curtailing the contracting out of so many training consultants. There are many HUD workers that can be compensating to do the same type of training. Many consultants are being hired by human resources and HUD headquarters and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to conduct training. I would state that we are hiring too many consultants to do the work that... more »

Eliminate LIHTC

Eliminate the Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) Program. Without a doubt this is a proposal that would save many millions of dollars in avoided waste and inefficiency. The LIHTC Program is a tremendous boondoggle. It is obvious that a significant portion of the money lost to the Federal Government in the form of taxes that are not paid does not go into housing for low or moderate income (LMI) families. Look at... more »

Health & More Health

I suggest you...all Federal Agency be provided free gymn services. Supporting the health of federal workers would cut down on obesity, make workers healthier in mind and body. This in turn may cut down on illnesses in the workplace thereby cutting down on absences and possibly turnover rates.

Update Technologies

I would like to suggest that it be federally mandated that all government agency’s move to a more (80%) paperless environment by 2013. Use of electronic storage of files for example and documents alone would reduce costs. Concentrate and target Government offices for upgrades on existing computers and systems. Give us the tools and resources throughout branches at all levels to use the tools and technologies the private... more »

Government Budget system encourages waste and penalizes saving

Government Budget system encourages waste and penalizes saving; this should be changed to encourage and reward saving.

a. When a federal government agency saves money and does not spend 100% of its appropriated funds, the funds for that year are lost, and usually, the agency’s budget is cut for the next budget year. In effect, this penalizes an agency for saving money, and encourages the agency to spend its entire... more »
