Change Control to Support

Within the Department of Justice, managers, office supervisors, and office chiefs should be provided with more managerial authority so as to streamline employee performance. Some of the control policies adopted by agencies like the Office of Personnel Management and the General Services Administration should be modified or eliminated to prevent micromanagement and red tape. Managers should have the authority to hire,... more »

Restrict PACER Usage

Every year, DOJ estimates spending over $3 million on PACER - an electronic public access service that allows users to purchase case and docket information from federal courts. DOJ's use of PACER is government waste at its worst. DOJ subscribes to CourtLink - a FREE service operated by LexisNexis that does virtually the same thing as PACER (along with a few additional features). DOJ should work to drastically limit PACER... more »

Save money on water

One way the Department of Justice can save money, especially for the Bureau of Prisons, is to have a timer on the Inmate showers. Have the timer set to a certain time and have it where it can only reset when the shower door is open. Put a switch where the staff can start the timer.

Quicker Death Penalty

If a criminal is sentenced to death by way of jury and beyond any reasonable doubt, I suggest they put the criminal to death within one week.

This will seriously cut costs in feeding and housing the enemy to freedom. It will also put the criminal out of their misery much sooner than have them sitting in prison for years.

Federal Camp Inmate Volunteer Workforce

I suggest utilizing the gigantic inmate workforce available in Federal Prison Camps for Volunteer Work Forces. The camp inmates with the required skills for each situation could reasonably be put on furlough to the affected area (having signed as a VOLUNTEER, stopping any and all claims to payment from any person or agency) and required to check in daily with a local agency, either some local parole agent or any federal... more »

Overtime

The Government is currently spending billions of dollars on staff overtime. The government can reduce this by introdusing a computerised daytrade system . This system will enable employees who agree to certain rules and regulations, to submit and /or accept days (patial or full day) posted on the bulletine board and be paid REGULAR TIME. This system will enable employees to have more freedom to manage their time... more »

recycling batteries

I suggest using rechargeable batteries for inmate radios and most equipment in the BOP. recharging batteries would stop these items going into land fills.

Self Service

I suggest putting solar panels or shingles on all government buildings so that the building can produce there on electricity. Start with the prisons. Get back to letting inmates grow their on foods. Also have diesel electric engines put in government vehicles. The hybrids are crap.

Saving Paper

Trashing/shredding piece of paper? Use back side of sheet for scratch paper before destroying, instead of taking new piece of paper, or post it note.

Government Metro Transportation Agency

I suggest you establish a Government Metro Transportaion Agency (GMTA) to transport government workers from building to building and agency to agency. This will save money because you only need one fleet of vehicles and drivers. This will eliminate the need for every agency to have their own shuttle service and drivers. The schedules will be more effective and efficient and will accommodate more government workers.... more »
