Save Hundreds/Thousands of Dollars on Health Care Premiums by Offering a 2-Party Health Care Plan

The Federal Government and its employees could save hundreds of dollars each month if there was a 2-Party health care plan option offered, not just a Family plan. I was a single parent for 15 years (just recently married) and all other employment before working for the Government offered 2-Party plans. My insurance premium more than doubled (nearly tripled) going to a Family plan. Besides single parents, there are a lot... more »

HEALTH CARE PLAN SAVINGS AND INCENTIVES

I suggest a type of proactive incentivised system for health care that would operate in conjunction with the recently passed Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (Pub.L. 111-152).

Incentives (monetary rewards) -for individuals in the private / public plans who not only get annual check-ups but follow their proimary care doectors generals advise and also follow the advise and care of any specialsists... more »

Idea: This is a healthcare reform leapfrog opportunity for a secure compact critical combined electronic personal and medical record implemented for federal employees and families seen at Dept of State (DOS) Health Clinics.

Eliminate Unneeded Contractors

Eliminate all contracts for clinical personnel in DoD Medical Treatment Facilities for functions that are already provided in-house. If additional capability is needed, start sending people to networked providers and pay for that service via the TRICARE contracts. Current process to contract for clinical personnel is labor intensive for those who award the contracts, and those that monitor the contracts. Eliminating... more »

Charge smokers and obese people more for health insurance.

Your individual health insurance premium that is deducted from your paycheck every two weeks depends on the health of your fellow coworkers. If you have coworkers who do not take care of their health well, you end up paying more for your own health insurance. We should provide a financial incentive for people to take better care of themselves and lower healthcare costs for all of their coworkers in the process.

Qualified Recipients of Medical Services, a list

I suggest that legal counsel in CMS and/or in the office of the Secretary develop a set of guidelines on the process for obtaining a list of decedents from various data sources. This idea raises numerous privacy issues and would have to be evaluated carefully by legal staff to determine its legal status before it could be implemented. This list of decedents could periodically be compared to purchased medical supplies... more »

Selling Surplus VA Capacity

I suggest that consideration be given to selling surplus service capacity in the VA health care system to private contractors. Because of declining numbers of veterans in older age brackets and shifting population, there are some VA facilities that have surplus capacity. This surplus capacity in clinics and in the expensive diagnostic equipment such as MRI's could be leased to medical practitioners on a triple net basis... more »

Scheduling two Shifts of White Collar Workers per Day Instead of One to Cut Overhead Costs and Carbon Footprint by 50%

This idea would also help us avoid future oil spills by becoming less dependent on foreign oil .At the end of the Industrial Revolution our government entered the White Collar Era. We have grown up during the Information Age which morphed into the Digital Age that we are in right now. We seemed to have forgotten the basic concept that made the Industrial Revolution one of the most important events in human history. "Interchangeable... more »

Health Care Stipend (Not take FEHBP)

Give Federal Employees the ability to shop for the best deal for Health Insurance and if it is outside of the FEHBP then offer then a monetary stipend not to take the FEHBP provided they prove they are still recieving comparable insurance. This may encourage more competition and drive health care costs down through traditional free market principles. As a large workforce the federal employees may be able to drive healthcare... more »

Return to Supporting VistA

I suggest you..
Mr. President;
The VA has been running their hospitals with their own home-grown VistA for nearly 3 decades. There has been a freeze on the enhancement of this amazing software package which has already saved the government over a billion dollars when it was used as the seed for the DoD Composite Health Care System back in 1986. It has taken the DoD more than 20 years to replace CHCS-I with their ever... more »

Wasting $10,000 a day... really?

I know it was a common topic last year, but this again would be on healthcare reform policy. At the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. We are wasting a tremendous amount of medication and money in the pharmacy. We have a large number of patients on different types of inhalers, some costing over 300$ a piece even at a government contract prices. Many nights we get many of these back because duplicates were... more »

Elected Public Officials CAN NOT be allowed to give themselves Increased Benefits and Pay without public approval

Elected Public Servants can not vote for their own pay raises and benefits.

If a public election put someone in office then a public vote should be required to approve any increases to salary, bonus, holiday, health, and retirement benefits.

A government of the people, for the people, by the people, not the privledged.
