A Simple Savings Technique

I suggest you give the monitoring capabilities for our Government Vehicles from GSA. We are already keeping up with the mileage and maintenance, etc. If the person who kept up with the records in the GSA was paid a salary of $35000 per State, then shifting the responsilblity back to the Agency would result in the savings of approximately $1,785,000 per year.(51 States at $35000 per state)

Saving by performing risk based inspection

I suggest that USDA FSIS will revive Risk Based Inspection and sample testing program. Performing risk based inspection will help to more accurately allocate recourses and identify food born pathogens.
Currently most inspection tasks and sampling are provided randomly without taking in consideration
specifics of each food processing plant .It is very costly, time consuming and not very effective
inspection. Risk based... more »

Eliminate all passwords

Instead of using a password, use a retinal scan to identify the person.

Retinal scan pattern is unique to each person. A retinal scan pattern does not have to be remembered like a password. A retinal scan pattern cannot be lost, because it is embedded in each person’s eye. A retinal scan 3D pattern cannot be copied. A retinal scan pattern can eliminate the need for passwords, smartcard, PIN codes, and security photo... more »

Build Regional Government Distribution Centers and Buy Direct From The Manufacturer - Follow the Wal-Mart Model

The Government wastes millions of dollars in purchasing everyday supplies from Retail and Wholesale Chain stores. If we built a Distribution Center in every Region and filled our own supply orders we would drive our costs down by negotiating our own contracts with the manufacturers. In addition, we could standardize supplies across all agencies and administrations, thereby eliminating wasteful spending on friviolous or... more »

America's Challenge

Reduce the issuance of contracts for consultanting services and allow American citizens to compete for $25,000, $50,000, $250,000, etc. in monetary awards for their ideas or solutions that solve a problem faced by this country similar to challenges issue by private industry to increase their profitablity.

The practice of challenges is a modern day phenomenon. Well known and enormously successful corporations are using... more »

Replace Single-Flight METRO Escalators With Stairs

According to METRO’s website 13% of its 588 escalators were not in service today (7/22/10). The majority of those currently being repaired ascend a single flight and the agency spends between $25M-$30M annually (in direct costs) to maintain them. This does not include overhead costs, like energy consumption. Other subway systems utilize stairs for single flights because stairs increase the flow of traffic, are less... more »

DO AWAY WITH THE DEFENCE TRAVEL SYSTEM (DTS) AND OPT FOR AMUCH MORE STREAMLINED SYSTEM WHICH GIVES LINKS TO COMERAL TRAVEL SITES

DTS is a complicated and costly system, not only does it not book the travel electronically for you, it go to a travel agency that dose that and charges you a fee. The next problem is it bases all of its air fares on the GSA City Pares program. You can almost always go to commercial sites like Expedia or Orbitz and find lower fares, the GAS City Pairs program is costly and just need to done away with completely, Suggestion... more »

SMART Save: Systematic Meeting Awareness Reeducation Training

Problem: MEETING INEFFICIENCIES. Hundreds and thousands of hours in lost productivity, employee costs, travel expenses and overhead can be recovered by utilizing a systematic set of procedures and remote meeting software when organizing and executing meetings.
Conservative estimates of total federal meeting expenses are $8 billion dollars annually, (employee wages, travel expenses and overhead). Utilization of a systematic... more »

Automatic Computer Shut Down

DHS has an estimated 200,000 employes and contractors who use laptops and desktop computers for their work every day. But when workers leave the office, many of them do not take the time to shut down their computer. This naturally begs the question: how much money could DHS save by remotely turning off idle computers?

Assumptions:
-10% of workers leave their computers on overnight (20,000)
-The average computer uses... more »

4/10's 9/8's

Initialize a four day 10 hr work weeks (or 9/8's), especially here in DC area. With 4 Day work weeks commuters will decrease pollution, reduce energy used (computers/lights/etc) within government buildings, less congestion on high ways, improvement of work force by reducing ‘time-away’, edge in competitive recruitment of highly skilled work force (commercial nuclear industry and private sector are already doing.)

Mutual Support Agreements

Recommend that the President publish an Executive Order to require all Federal departments and agencies to provide mutual support to other Executive Branch offices.

Often, agencies must allocate and use appropriated funds for travel and lodging at distant facilities to complete training or conference requirements, or contingency operations. In some cases, interstate travel is required for an agency to meet mission needs,... more »

UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRATION SOLUTION:SELF FUNDED DETERRENT PREVENTING THE HIRING OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS

I suggest a new type of proactive solution in the form of an enforcement system to deter the hiring of undocumented workers (illegal aliens, deportable/inadmissible aliens) through self funded economic incentives (monetary rewards) generated by fines. It will encourage the public to report violators and discourage employers from hiring undocumented workers.
A percentage of the fines levied on employers of undocumented... more »

Switch to Linux

Switch to Linux. A linux based system for the US government would save billions in license fees for Microsoft office and Oracle license fees for datatbase servers. Linux is more cyber secure, and there are free programs which mirror Microsoft office and nearly all other programs. while there would be transition costs and training required, this is true of less intuitive systems like travel programs. the cost savings... more »
