VA Consolidated Appointment Mail Processing

The creation of a VA Consolidated Appointment Mail Processing (CAMP) Center will eliminate the redundant process of printing and mailing appointment reminder letters to Veterans by all Medical Centers. This process will also generate a minimum savings of approximately $4 million annually for the VA.

Having a high volume mailing center will allow VA to receive substantial discounts from the US Postal Service by presorting... more »

FLEXI-PLACE/CONTRACT IN AFTER RETIREMENT

#1 Suggestion: Take a look at the opportunity the Government has to save millions of dollars by allowing employees in positions that would allow them to work flexiplace, work Occupational flexiplace. Right now, in my area, we are allowed to work Situational Flexiplace, 80 hours a month. There's nothing at my desk in the office that I don't have at home. In quite a few areas of the IRS (and I'm sure other Government... more »

Stick Less-Save More

The VA has a large number of diabetic patients enrolled in the VA Healthcare System. Over the next few years, the number of enrolled diabetic patients will significantly increase as the incidence of diabetes increases and the obesity epidemic sweeps across the country. The VA follows the community standard of routine capillary blood glucose (CBG) testing of diabetic patients upon their arrival and check in to outpatient... more »

Why are we still doing timesheets?

At the State Department, we have a "timekeeper" in each office who is in charge of submitting everyone's timesheets. Even though the vast majority of employees are salaried, and thus the "standard" 40-hour workweek gets reported even though most people work much longer. These must be submitted even if the employee takes no leave during the pay period. It makes no sense that we continue to have to submit timesheets every... more »

Change the look of government credit cards to help prevent fraud and abuse.

Change the look of the government travel card and purchase card. This is NO COST, and should help with fraud and abuse.
I review the misuse report for the travel card. I often hear that the card resembles their personal card. There is NO COST to the government to request the banks to change the color and enlarge the wording on the card. A bright solid colored card with large letters across the entire card which reads:... more »

Soc Security (Seniors) required to perform volunteer work to keep collecting benefits until age 70

Just one day per week to report to community centers or public works departments to remain eligible for benefit checks. Some seniors may delay retirement until after age 70 to avoid this public service requirement which will save money. If not, their work will save local communities money.

Turn Down the Lights

Reduce the amount of lighting in Federal buildings during the summer months. Dropping to 50% lighting during late spring thru early autumn will cut the electricity bills substantially and reduce the frequency/costs of replacing light bulbs and light fixtures. The more intense daylight streaming in from windows and glass doors should at least partially compensate for the decrease in interior lighting.

IRS.gov Taxpayer eAccount

I suggest that all Taxpayers should have an IRS.gov eAccount. Taxpayers will be able to see a history of letters sent to them by the IRS, and refund information. Also the Taxpayers will be able to change their postal address and submit payments with their credit cards or bank accounts. This is a Facebook/Twitter/eMail generation. The IRS will saved milions of dolars in postage by giving acces to current and previous letters... more »

Deceased but paid

Social Security currently loses millions of dollars and waste thousands of hours because of deceased beneficiaries who continue to get paid. We have a system called DACUS to track these checks and to terminate these checks. In my experience, the vast majority of these DACUS alerts are present because funeral homes do not contact the Social Security Administration to report deaths. We spend countless hours tracking down... more »

Standardize common admin tools

Standardize and enforce common small admin tools. Many offices and agencies have created their own small tools for admin functions which are common throughout the government. A few COTS/GOTS solutions could be mandated with limited customization capabilities by each org. Examples: inventory tracking, workload distribution, EFOIA reporting, staffing projections of new hires and attritions, project status reporting tools... more »

Implementation of a Comprehensive Idea Program Recognizing and Rewarding Employee Suggestions

Clearly there are many employees out there with excellent ideas. Why not develop a meaningful program to encourage, reward, and implement good ideas. I see alot of ideas coming in however, its not clear how any of these will be identified for implementation and it is even less clear that there is any incentive being provided to the employee making the suggestion. This program should provide a clearly identified process... more »
