A software closed loop user feedback process.

Make a policy or law requiring a closed loop user feedback process for new, current and future Government Information Systems (software). This would provide Lean Six Sigma quantifiable data for senior leader decision makers. Not what the vendors, contractors think.

As software products are developed this will ensure the feedback is collected by a closed loop system to measure the usage, effectiveness and correct issues... more »

This idea, will allow for the unemployed... more »

Use USPS NOT FedEx for Government Savings and Security

At USDA/NASS we use FedEx all the time for packages and envelopes, especially for 'priority' deliveries. It’s no secret that the USPS is suffering. Instead of 'outsourcing' shipping AND bailing out the USPS why not keep all mail originating from federal offices in the federal system and use the USPS? The USPS offers the exact same services as FedEX and since it is in the federal system, in theory, our federally protected... more »

PRUNING THE WORKFORCE-Eliminate MRA...allow 30 and out like Military

Like any robust thriving plant, the government workforce needs a pruning. Recommend providing 3-5 years additional time to employees tenure who have reached 30 years service but are still short of Minimum Retirement Age (MRA). If an employee accepts the added time which puts them at MRA and 30 years service, they must execute retirement option within 6 months. This would allow a new generation, in particular the war veterans,... more »

Offbase housing prices overseas out of control!!

Eliminate the host nation employees in the overseas housing offices!!! Every base I have been to overseas has host nation employees working in the housing offices. When looking for a house to rent off base, they would let the landlord know exactly what my military cap was on housing and guess what the landlord charged - the exact amount of my military cap! Somehow this insanity has to be stopped. The host employees are... more »

Prevent Govtrip from waiting until last minute to book the more expensive air fares

prevent Govtrip from waiting until the last minute to book reservations at much higher costs. I have reserved travel well in advance of my trip, almost a month or more in advance, only to find out that Govtrip waited until the week before my departure date to book my ticket. A $150 ticket that I had reserved ended up costing the taxpayers well over $400 by the time Govtrip booked it simply because of the way Govtrip is... more »

Stop Agency Conferences at Hotels/Conference Centers

Specifically address the number of Government Conferences and make them prove an ROI (not just cancel them). Each agency should give the top five agency 'conferences' that are sited at a hotel and conference center and justify the site costs, the staff time to organize the events, and the employee travel to attend.

Provide non-motorized vehicle reimbursements.

Save travel costs, energy costs, go green, and increase health of federal employees by providing low cost non-motorized vehicle reimbursements rather than only providing the current high cost motorized vehicle use rates. If as an example, just 2% of the federal employees would use bicycles that could be reimbursed at 10 cents per mile instead of 50 cents/mile for automobile use -- many millions of dollars would be saved... more »

Provide Subsidies - not commissaries

The DoD eliminate commissaries and exchanges on every base that has a commercial grocery store or Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart or other mall within 10 miles of the base. Military members can be given a special debit card with funds that allow them to purchase food and other essentials with a subsidy. There is no reason to build and remodel old commissaries and exchanges when commercial alternatives are within reasonable... more »

Who Says Contractors Are Cheaper Than Federal Employees???

I suggest that we make agencies more directly responsible for their work functions by allowing them to convert contractor dollars into Federal employees. Imagine being able to respond to changing business needs without modifying a contract and negotiating with a reluctant 'service provider'. I think this can be implemented by establishing a percentage goal saying that xx% of all workers must be Federal employees. It would... more »

FLEXI-PLACE/CONTRACT IN AFTER RETIREMENT

#1 Suggestion: Take a look at the opportunity the Government has to save millions of dollars by allowing employees in positions that would allow them to work flexiplace, work Occupational flexiplace. Right now, in my area, we are allowed to work Situational Flexiplace, 80 hours a month. There's nothing at my desk in the office that I don't have at home. In quite a few areas of the IRS (and I'm sure other Government... more »

Consolidating IT contracts across agencies achieving a whole-of-government approach to cost savings

U.S. Mission Indonesia consolidated nineteen IT contracts from eleven departments in six agencies (DoS, DoD, DoJ, FCS, DHS, and DoA). This whole-of-government approach increased our purchasing power with our local Internet Service Provider (ISP). By presenting a unified approach to contract solicitation, we increased our purchasing potential and achieved a realized cost savings of $300,000 a year and $1.5 Million over... more »
