Replace embassy fleets of gas guzzling 6.0 liter engine Suburban SUVs with fuel-efficient, hybrid vehicles and minivans. This would demonstrate U.S. commitment to new, green technology and save money.
Pay attention to vehicles ordered for use overseas. It makes no sense to order large, oversized SUVs for use in crowded, tight cities. Why send a Chevy Suburban to Bucharest, Romania - where streets are small, crowded, and gas is expensive - for small deliveries and errands, when a Ford Focus will work better?
Bigger is NOT always better. Consider the location, the need, and the continuing cost.
The maintenance staff and other personal needing transportation on campus should use smaller trucks, (such as mini trucks or mini vans), electrical hybrid vehicles, or electrical vehicles. This should save on fuel, lower maintenance cost and make it easer to move around the campus using the smaller vehicles.
