Save $20M+ annually - Electronically Print & Deliver Congressional Record

The Congressional Record cost tax payers $28,390,000 each year to print and deliver to Congress. If converted to electronic format, voice and color enhancements could be added simultaneously with electronic dissemination to significantly reduce these costs in the millions of dollars. Additionally, speedier dissemination (via email, RSS Feed, special website, etc.), authentication and preservation would be guaranteed... more »

Public Support

Our goverment does many things FOR our citizenry and not enough WITH our citizenry. It would be simple to develop much better mechanisms that enable our citizenry to contribute both financially and in other ways to many governmental missions. Our public simply does not know they can help in this way. Just one example would be an initiative to have agencies develop public service announcements that both inform the public... more »

Industrial Electric Trucks-Fork Lifts

I have been made aware of the fact that my current agency is in need of replacements for its rapidly aging fleet of electric trucks and fork lifts. After talking with a number of administrators and upon careful investigation, I discovered that because of OSHA regulations regarding newer electric trucks and fork lifts, my agency would require a highly-customized vehicle to serve its needs and purposes with a price tag... more »

OST Division of Trust Funds Management - IIM Checks less than a $1

OSt / DTFA is the funds side for processing a Trust related probate. We often mail checks (under $1) to heirs only to have them returned a year later by Treasury. Then we will either mail the check again (if Bureau of Indian Affairs says they have a good address) or set up an account in TFAS, the government banking system for Individual Indian Money. If we mail the check again it will likely be returned in a year by... more »

Enhanced telework program and increased use of email could save the Federal Government millions.

Implement 5 days of telework for employees and provide enforcement so that all managers undersatnd the directive. This will allow savings on real estate leasing, utilities, telecommunications, transportation vouchers, etc. Additionally, instead of such a heavy reliance on paper, make email attachments the main instrument of correspondence. This should not be difficult as most correspondence is donw via word processing... more »

Outsourced Printing

I suggest you REQUIRE ALL federal agencies to submit printing jobs to the US Government Printing Office thereby saving a great deal of money, time and resources sending print jobs to outsourced contractors such as Kinkos/FedEx.

Welfare when needed, not wanted

We need a program set up (add some jobs in a bad economy) to verify that the people that are on welfare and disability are deserving. Require drug tests for new applicants. Do random drug tests on people currently receiving benefits. Make sure that they are LEGAL US citizens. Verify that the 'disabled' truely can't work. The money saved would more than pay for the jobs created to check these things out.

Bio-Diesel

I suggest we, the gov't, put to use some of our brain power to come up with a cost-effective way to convert paper waste to bio-diesel. Doing so would allow so-equipped vehicle fleets to use that bio-diesel at a significant cost savings to the agency and the government as a whole.

Protect our Borders

Allow the Border Patrol to do their job. The Red Tape, oranizations such as the ACLU, and the media make it where the Border Patrol officers can't do their job for fear of losing it, or being sent to jail. If they would be allowed to protect our borders, we wouldn't have to pay to house, feed, and educate illegal aliens (they aren't immigrants).

Storage Requirement for Personnel Records

In 2007 the Forest Service National Records Manager issued a freeze on disposal of all personnel records in the Forest Service. Nearly four years later we are still under this freeze so we are paying for storage of old records that could have been disposed of years ago. The new standards for storage of federal records require us to locate new storage facilities that meet the requirements which will result in even higher... more »
