More Telecommuting

Instead of allowing Managers to hold back telecommuting (and they are) it needs to be expanded. New language needs to come down from the department level saying to use it as much as possible and enforce it. The President and previous President has signed off on this as has Congress but it's not getting down to the worker bees.

Universal health care system for federal employees.

Create a universal health care system for federal employees. The government can stop paying private health insurance companies the contributions on behalf of the employee. The employee would still have coverage options by letting them pay a certain amount depending upon what options the employee selects, i.e. basic coverage, high coverage, dental, vison, etc. Multiply the number of federal employees by the amount contributed... more »

Why can't the dollars that I and the government has paid into my health plan over the last 20 years, and I have had not used, be allowed to help cover health care expenses of my aging parents. OR, allow for over 65 year old parents to be covered on childrens health plan. I am a health person who has paid into my health plan for as long as I have been a government employee (over 20 years) and I will never use up the... more »

Plain Language for Describing Medical Services to Seniors

Community Member kudos icon +

To help seniors better understand what their health care providers are billing/charging the Medicare program, beneficiaries' Medicare Summary Notices should include plain language about services billed to Medicare by inpatient and outpatient providers. Most seniors do not understand the scientific and medical names of certain diseases and body parts. Therefore, they may not be able to report fraud and abuse. By using... more »

Lab Results and TRICARE On Line

I suggest you...Utilize TRICARE On Line to post lab results for patients. This would reduce the cost of mailing normal results and/or utilizing a different program for patients to attain their results. This would also allow patietns to print thier own results and have them included as part of thier personal health record.

Limit the number of employees from each agency allowed to attend the same training or conference. Require those who attended to report on what they learned, and make any electronic resources available to their co-workers to maximize the impact of the expenditure. Rotate the attendees so that the same employees are not the employees always attending training. This would save travel money, maximize the expenditure and create... more »

Flushless Urinals save water and save money

FLUSHLESS URINALS:

1. Purchase Price: less expensive to purchase and install than flush urinals because they have no flushing mechanism. All that is required is a drainage outlet, typically less than an hour to install, and seconds to install the cartridge.

2. Operating Costs: save 100% of the water going through urinals and 100% of water and sewer charges—both of which will certainly rise in the future.

3. Maintenance... more »

Piggybacking or pooling of software purchases for maximized cost savings @ local level

Community Member kudos icon +
Community Member
There should be a mechanism for federal agencies to piggyback or pool resources to purchase software and maximize efficiency of scale. For example, if I want to purchase 1 license of a product, the cost is much higher than if I purchased 500 licenses. If I'm aware of other users of this software across the federal services, ideally I should be able to contact that group to piggyback on their purchase and avoid paying... more »

Fair Share for Commuters

Provide the same fixed dollar amount to all employees, regardless of how they commute to work. Currently, those who park for "free" often receive a higher financial benefit than those who walk, bike, use transit, or telework. The high cost of parking is absorbed by taxpayers. These "free" parking costs include the market rate for parking, environmental pollution, noise pollution, car accidents, road and bridge maintenance,... more »

Tapping Obesity Energy Reserve (TOER) Initiative

Community Member kudos icon +

Tapping Obesity Energy Reserve (TOER) is one initiative that contributes to solutions for two national issues--(1) the need for alternative energy solutions and (2) solutions to reduce obesity (like Let's Move). The genesis of the idea is to fund (with money otherwise spent on health care costs related to obesity) research, development, and incentivize production of home pedal power technology--like the bicycle powered... more »
